Kenya is a country in East Africa. Nairobi it he capital city and also the biggest city in Kenya. The official languages are English and Swahili.
Kenya is situated on the Equator. The coast it is flat, hot and very humid. The highland with Mount Kenya (17,057 feet) is less hot, the nights even can be quiet cool. The west is flat again, touching a small part of the Lake Victoria. There it again can be very hot and it sometimes rains heavily.
Kenya is a country full of beauty and potential but sadly it suffers from severe corruption and far-reaching poverty, especially outside of Nairobi.
We live in Kijabe, a small village situated in the green slopes of the Great Rift Valley, about one and a half hours northeast of Nairobi. The village slowly grew aournd the AIC Kijabe hospital and therefore Dani's workspace is right at the centre.
Right in Kijabe and in walking distance are also the Kindergarden and the school our Kids attend, they are part of the Rift Valley Acadamy.
Kijabe is surrounded by beautiful nature and especially the view over the Great Rift Valley is breathtaking! Different types of monkeys and birds are daily visitors!
The first Kijabe mission station was founded by missionaries in 1903, and the first hospital, Theodora Hospital, was opened in 1915.
Today AIC Kijabe Hospital is a non-profit organization under Kenyan management. The hospital has 363 beds and over 900 employees. We work closely with public hospitals and universities and are integrated into the national medical education system so that many Kenyan doctors and nurses are trained here. For example, we developed and manage the national ECCO training program, the only accredited emergency medicine training in Kenya.
The hospital offers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services to people from surrounding villages and regions. We also send mobile health teams to local villages to provide on-site assistance.
The hospital has also enjoyed a good reputation throughout the region for many years. It is known for good and fair treatment as well as a compassionate Christian work ethic. We try to get help to where it is needed most.
